Obama and The West Wing

Suzie and I, a little behind the times, recently watched (for the first time) the entire seven seasons of the excellent TV show The West Wing in a period of about 2 months. We even managed to get the boys interested in it. The article below, in my old college-town newspaper, reminded me of the last season, when the Jimmy Smits character (Matt Sanchez) started his campaign for the Presidency. What was it all about at first? Education, education, education. And here’s the report on Mr. Obama in Cedar Rapids:

At Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Obama pledged to improve how the nation educates young people – especially those in low socioeconomic areas – pointing to what he labeled as flaws in the Bush administration’s education policy as the reason behind his call for change.

Maybe Obama figures NBC knows that the voters really want (although I’m fairly certain the West Wing demographic isn’t reflective of the electorate as a whole). Let’s all keep an eye out for Mr. Obama covering other West Wing riffs.
