From Suzie:
Hi everyone. The fledgling unicorn is back in the hospital. He woke up this morning with some fever and chills. This is pretty normal with CAR-T as it starts to work, the body reacts with inflammation which causes fevers. It is what is called Cytokine Release Syndrome. His case is low grade at this point and they are hoping to keep it that way by giving him an immunotherapy drug with a long name, Tosi for short. We’re currently in the Infusion Treatment Area (where we’ve been since 10:30 this morning). When a bed becomes available on one of the isolation floors he’ll go to a room. Steve says to tell everyone that he is a “Phase I failure.” But no such thing. Flying through without side effects would have been very unusual. I’ll post again when there is something to update.
